Africa-Press – Eswatini. Government has announced a welcome reduction in fuel prices, offering relief to households, motorists, and businesses across the country.

In a press release issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy (MNRE), the fuel price adjustment takes effect at midnight on Thursday, 5 February 2026, and will be reflected at the pumps from Friday, 6 February 2026.

According to the Ministry, the prices of Unleaded Petrol, Diesel (50ppm S), and Illuminating Paraffin have each been reduced by 70 cents per litre. This positive adjustment is expected to ease transport costs and bring some relief to consumers amid ongoing global economic pressures.

Under the new pricing structure:

• Unleaded Petrol (ULP95) has decreased from E20.15 to E19.45 per litre

• Diesel (0.005% S) has dropped from E20.55 to E19.85 per litre

• Illuminating Paraffin is now E14.20 per litre, down from E14.90

The Ministry attributed the fuel price decrease mainly to the appreciation of the Lilangeni against the US Dollar. The exchange rate averaged E16.32 in January 2026, an improvement from E16.93 recorded in December 2025, which positively influenced local fuel prices.

This development helped offset a slight increase in international Brent crude oil prices, which rose to an average of US$66 per barrel in January 2026, compared to US$62 per barrel the previous month.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy encouraged the public to use fuel efficiently, noting that both international oil markets and exchange rates remain volatile. Government reaffirmed its commitment to closely monitoring global trends to ensure fuel prices remain fair and reflective of prevailing economic conditions.

The fuel price reduction comes as encouraging news for the nation, supporting economic activity and offering timely relief to consumers across Eswatini.
