Africa-Press – Eswatini. The woman of Nsingweni under Maphalaleni Constituency who is accused of poisoning and killing her three children has been arrested and charged with three murder counts.
Samkelisiwe Ginindza (33) who allegedly ingested poison after killing her children had been admitted at Dvokolwako Health Centre. She was discharged yesterday afternoon according to reliable sources.
Soon after being discharged, the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) pounced on her, arresting her for allegedly ending the innocent lives of her three children.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer (PICO) Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the arrest.
Ginindza allegedly killed her three children aged two, five and nine by forcing them to ingest an unidentified poisonous substance.
Thembinkhosi Dlamini, the father of the deceased children, had disclosed that they had not yet scheduled a date for the burial.
However, he could not answer further questions as he hung up the phone.
This publication reported on Thursday that three children died after they ingested some poisonous substance, which they are believed to have been force-fed by their mother.
Ginindza is said to have also ingested the poisonous substance, but survived. She was then admitted to Dvokolwako Health Centre where she received medical treatment and was later discharged.
Meanwhile, the deputy prime minister’s office through a statement issued on Thursday said it was saddened by the reports in newspapers of the killing of three minor children through poisoning by their mother. The office said children were the future of families and the perpetual existence of the nation.
The office stated that families, communities and individuals must implement measures that safeguard children from all acts of violence.
“As a nation, we all have a responsibility to raise awareness on the importance of protecting children and ensuring that Eswatini is fit for every child” said the DPMO.
The office reminded the nation that the Constitution of the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Child Protection and Welfare Act had the highest regard for children, their protection and non-violation of their rights.
It added that protecting children from violence was not only a basic value, but also an obligation clearly set out in the aforementioned legislative frameworks.
The DPM’s office further stated that it remain fully committed to assisting parents and families in caring for children. “Our regional social welfare offices are available to provide support.
Furthermore, the office houses the gender and family issues department which is also ready to assist families on various issues,” it said.
It added that the nation was encouraged to visit nearby social welfare offices for engagement on any social issue so that ideal balanced solutions to challenges at hand may be explored to avoid such incidences.
