Africa-Press – Eswatini. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy, in partnership with NextGen Energy Eswatini, which is a cohort of young women, has launched an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming Eswatini’s energy sector held on Saturday, 5 July, 2025.
NextGen Energy Eswatini comprises interns and trainees who are recent graduates from various STEM fields, including computer science, chemistry, economics, and engineering. The initiative is designed to empower young people particularly women to take the lead in shaping Eswatini’s energy future through innovation, leadership, and community impact.
The launch meeting was filled with energy and optimism, beginning with remarks from mentor Candy Stromvig, who highlighted the importance of mentorship and collaboration. “NextGen is more than an organization,” she said. “It is a launchpad for innovation, equity, and impact.”
Participants engaged in a series of skills-building workshops focused on digital tools, entrepreneurship, and professional development. Khanyisile Magagula, a computer science graduate, led a session on communication platforms such as Zoom and Google Forms, demonstrating how digital tools can improve productivity and outreach. Another highlight came from Sethabile Ndlangamandla, who introduced her eco-friendly digital business card platform, which reflects the entrepreneurial spirit growing within the group.
In addition to its practical sessions, the group ratified a constitution, elected its leadership team, and launched a mentorship program in collaboration with the Ministry’s job shadowing outreach. These foundational steps mark the beginning of what the members hope will become a long-term movement of youth involvement in energy reform.
With a clear mission and government support, NextGen Energy Eswatini is setting out to ensure that young people especially women, are not only included in the energy sector but are also empowered to lead it.
