As part of their mandate, the National Centre for Arts and Culture on Monday held a UNESCO Heritage Periodic Reporting workshop which is meant to engage with stakeholders and as well evaluate the NCAC activities at the UNESCO Heritage and related sites in The Gambia.
The periodic reporting workshop was attended by different stakeholders such as tour guides, boat handlers, journalists and guides at UNESCO Heritage and related sites among others.
The UNESCO Heritage Periodic Reporting is used to gather information about ongoing activities at the UNESCO Heritage sites and this includes concentration of the community, stakeholders’ involvement. However, this is one step of The Gambia’s report which is due the 30th June 2020.
Hassoum Ceesay, acting Director General of National Centre for Arts and Culture, explained that the UNESCO Periodic Reporting forum is designed to engage with stakeholders, adding that this is not a report that one can sit in office to do.
“It requires the engagement of the community, stakeholders to fill the form with lots of consultations and we are going to continue and get more stakeholders involve,” he disclosed.
Acting DG Ceesay indicated that the periodic reporting is a must for all the UNESCO Heritage sites and it is a tool to measure the progress achieved thus far.
“It is very important because it is a tool of accountability of what we have been doing for the past six years.”
The workshop was punctuated with different presentations from officials of the National Centre for Arts and Culture, senior tour guides, the focal person among others.
