Africa-Press – Ghana. Head coach of Nigeria, Augustine Eguaveon has defended his inclusion of midfielder Ogenyi Onazi in his squad for the World Cup playoff against Ghana.

The Saudi-based midfielder is returning to the squad since the World Cup in Russia four years ago.

His addition to the team, has left Nigerians divided with many criticizing his return but Eguaveon insists he has the final say.

“Onazi good player,” Eguavoen explained. “Whether he is still good; can play at that level, we don’t know.

“But that’s why I said, okay you know what, to pacify everybody, to just make sure there’s harmony here, put him on a standby. But he is on a standby. But again I have the final say.”

The Black Stars will hosts Nigeria in the first leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday, March 25, 2022 before travelling to Abuja in four days time for the second leg.
