Africa-Press – Ghana. The leadership of the Grassroots Alliance for Progress, an activist group within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Sege Constituency, has held a strategic meeting to deliberate on challenges confronting the youth and grassroots members in the area.
The meeting also provided a platform to outline strategies aimed at revitalising grassroots activities and enhancing their visibility and relevance beyond election periods.
Mr David Yaw Ahianyikor Tekson, Ward Secretary for Koluedor and Director of the Grassroots Alliance for Progress in the constituency, told that the engagement was not intended to attack any individual or leadership, but rather to refocus and empower the grassroots to play a continuous and meaningful role in party organisation and development.
He observed that some constituency-level leaders only engage grassroots members during elections to canvass for votes but neglect them after the polls, describing the situation as unhealthy for party growth.
“If an executive member performs well during his tenure, it will reflect election outcomes. There is therefore no need to discourage the grassroots from meeting or to shift blame when issues are raised,” Mr Tekson said.
He urged ward and branch executives to remain vigilant and resolute, stressing that a strong and organised grassroots base would always remain relevant to party leadership and decision-makers at higher levels.
Some participants told that they were actively mobilised during previous primaries and general elections but were sidelined afterwards, expressing hope that such engagements would help redefine the role and status of grassroots members within the party.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by members to strengthen unity, advocacy, and sustained participation in party activities at the local level.
