NCCE Explores Collaboration with Ghana Immigration Service

Africa-Press – Ghana. The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Tema Metropolitan Office, has engaged the Ghana Immigration Services (GIS), Tema Regional Command, on collaboration possibilities in the discharge of their various duties.

The engagement forms part of the Commission’s initiative to strengthen ties with stakeholders, including the security agencies within various districts.

Madam Gifty Agyeiwaa Badu, the Tema Metro Director of the NCCE, commended the GIS for participating in the three editions of the office’s constitution quiz for security agencies, noting that their presence and participation always made the event memorable and educative.

She stated that in 2023, the Tema Metro of the NCCE, as part of the constitution week, introduced the security agencies quiz to build the knowledge of security agencies’ staff to strengthen their duties of upholding the 1992 Constitution.

Ms Badu, giving a brief on the operations of the NCCE, indicated that the commission’s mandate stemmed from the 1992 Constitution and Act 452 of 1993.

She added that as part of its mandate, NCCE promotes education on the constitution, civic rights, and responsibilities, noting that they do this through the commission’s flagship programmes, including the Constitution Week Celebration, the Citizenship Week Celebration, civic clubs, and interactions with schools, faith-based groups, and security agencies, among other identifiable groups.

Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Evelyn Gyekye, the Tema Regional Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, commended the NCCE for the move to strengthen ties with stakeholders, including the security agencies.

She noted that they would collaborate, stressing that they were ready to allow the NCCE to conduct sensitisation on national and civic issues for the immigration staff whenever they wanted to help build the knowledge of the workers.
