Africa-Press – Ghana. The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has announced that the Regional and District Farmers’ Day celebrations will take place one week ahead of the National Farmers’ Day event.

This, he said, would ensure that farmers in the region derive maximum benefit from the festivities.

He made this known at a press soiree organised by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) ahead of the upcoming 41st National Farmers’ Day Celebration and the Volta Trade and Investment Fair, both to be hosted in the Volta Region in December.

The National Farmers’ Day celebrations, scheduled for Friday, December 5, 2025, will be held in Ho, the regional capital, also known as the “Oxygen City.” The theme for this year’s event is “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, Secure the Future.”

Mr Gunu said hosting the 41st edition of the event in the Volta Region was a privilege and recognition of the region’s immense contribution to national food security and agricultural advancement.

“From our fertile plains and vibrant fisheries to our growing agribusiness sector, the Volta Region continues to play a vital role in feeding Ghana and supporting livelihoods across the agricultural value chain,” he said.

He said some of the benefits the region would derive from hosting the celebrations would include economic boost to increase commercial activity from visitors, exhibitors, and dignitaries will benefit hotels, restaurants, transport operators, and traders. Promotion of Agribusiness Opportunities.

The fair will showcase the region’s agricultural potential and attract investors in agro-processing and mechanisation. With tourism promotion, the event would highlight key attractions such as Mount Afadja, Wli Waterfalls, and the Volta Lake.

Farmers would learn best practices through interaction with national and international experts and inspire young people to venture into agriculture and agribusiness.

He also announced that the Volta Trade and Investment Fair, a 13-day event featuring selected 24-hour activities, would run concurrently, highlighting opportunities in agriculture, tourism, and industry.

The Minister called on organisations, farmer groups, and individuals to partner in making the celebration a success.

“The 41st National Farmers’ Day is a platform to honour our hardworking farmers, fishers, and processors whose resilience and innovation continue to feed the nation,” he said, urging the people of Volta to demonstrate their unity and hospitality as hosts of this national event.

Mr. Dela Gadzanku, Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) for Volta, Eastern, and Oti Regions, said the Volta Trade and Investment Fair would feature round-the-clock exhibitions, and Investment Summit, and the unveiling of key projects by the Regional Minister.

He disclosed that the Made-in-Volta Investment Summit would bring together investors, policymakers, traditional and religious leaders, and the media to discuss strategies for industrializing the region.

“Our goal is to move from producing raw materials to processing them locally by establishing industries in the region. The Fair, coupled with the National Farmers’ Day, provides the perfect platform for this transformation,” he said.

He announced that the Regional Minister would unveil a 24-Hour Industrial Park Project, to be established zonally in the Volta Region, and declare Ho as a MICE Centre, a hub for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions, to attract both national and international events.

Mr. Gadzanku said the AGI had begun engaging hotels and businesses to prioritize the patronage of locally made Volta products, such as rice, coffee, and wine, to strengthen the regional economy.

Mr. Mohammed Avona Akape, Chief Director of the Volta Regional Coordinating Council, described the upcoming celebration as a “moment of pride” for the region, highlighting its agricultural potential and investment opportunities.

“We are working closely with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and all partners to ensure a successful and memorable event. The media remains a key partner in showcasing the contributions of our farmers,” he said.

Dr. Harrison Belley, Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Volta Region, pledged the media’s full support toward the success of both the Farmers’ Day Celebration and the Volta Trade and Investment Fair.

“This kind of engagement should not be limited to occasions; it should be periodic so that we can keep the public informed about ongoing projects and progress in the region,” he added.
