Africa-Press – Kenya. Tusker FC assistant coach George Maina is confident the brewers can keep their winning momentum against high-flying Kakamega Homeboyz in a SportPesa League clash at Bukhungu Stadium. The brewers are motivated after back-to-back victories for the first time this season.
It’s been a season of recovery for the 13-time champions, who stumbled out of the blocks with consecutive defeats to KCB (2-0) and Posta Rangers (2-1), followed by frustrating draws against Mathare United (0-0) and Shabana FC (1-1).
But the Ruaraka-based outfit seem to have rediscovered their spark, a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Murang’a Seal last Sunday, courtesy of Eric Kapaito’s decisive strike, ignited their revival.
They followed that up in midweek with a spirited 2-1 win over Kariobangi Sharks, with goals from Dennis Oguta and the in-form Kapaito sealing the deal.
Maina believes the recent turnaround is proof that Tusker have found their rhythm again. He’s eager to see the team build on that form against a high-flying Homeboyz side.
“The win is very important for us because looking at where we are coming from and getting back-to-back wins, it really means a lot to us,” Maina said.
“It gives us the drive to push ourselves and strive to do even better.
”However, Tusker’s next test is far from easy. Homeboyz are top of the standings with 13 points from six matches.
They beat Sofapaka (1-0), Bidco United (3-1), Ulinzi Stars (3-1) and APS Bomet (1-0). They drew 0-0 with Mara Sugar in their opener and lost 2-0 to Nairobi United.
Last season, the two sides could not be separated, playing out a 2-2 thriller in the first leg before settling for a goalless stalemate in the return fixture.
