Africa-Press – Kenya. Kenya Ports Authority coach Sammy Mulinge wants the Kenya Volleyball Federation to consider staging some of the league matches at the Makande Hall in Mombasa.
Mulinge, who doubles up as the secretary of the beach commission, believes Makande is spacious and of good quality.
KVF staged most of this season’s matches at Nyayo Stadium.
Some league matches were also played at Kapsabet in Nandi county while the women’s third leg fixtures are set to be played at Kaminini in Trans Nzoia county.
“We cannot continue crying about the lack of facilities when Makande hall is underutilised. I still don’t know why all matches are played at Nyayo when Mombasa is an option,” Mulinge said.
“The federation needs to talk to the management of Makande to allow them to use the hall.”
Mulinge also welcomed KVF’s decision to change the dates for the fourth leg.
The federation on Tuesday, hinted at rescheduling the matches that were set to be played on April 7-9 because the 2023 Paul Bitok’s National Tournament will be staged on the same dates.
“It all depends on the federation. The KVF has the mandate to adjust the dates but as a coach, I prefer the league matches to be played indoors,” Mulinge said.
Mulinge guided the national women’s beach volleyball team to their maiden Olympic appearance in the delayed Tokyo Olympic games.
“For the tournament, it is good to go to the grassroots because it helps us scout for more talent.”
