Africa-Press – Kenya. Leaders of the United Opposition during a press conference at Chui House in Nairobi on December 11, 2025 Leaders of the United Opposition are calling for the arrest and prosecution of individuals they allege were involved in incidents of violence during the November 27 by-elections.
Speaking during a press conference at Chui House in Nairobi, the leaders – Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, DCP’s Rigathi Gachagua, DP’s Justin Muturi, and DAP-Kenya’s Eugene Wamalwa – claimed the November 27, 2025, by-elections were not free and fair.
They urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take action against those they believe were responsible. The leaders also warned that, if the IEBC does not act, they would explore the option of initiating private prosecutions.
Eugene added that, in their view, the Commission “has the power to suspend individuals accused of participating in electoral offences, including barring them from future elections or from holding public office.” The leaders criticised remarks made by Ethekon, suggesting that it is impossible to rig elections in Kenya.
“It is high time political actors learn that stealing an election in this country is an impossibility. These returning officers here can confirm it. The observers who were honest can tell you the same. The media that followed these by-elections can also confirm it. It is impossible. Let that be clear,” Ethekon had said
However, the United Opposition argued that their observation of the November 27 polls differed, citing concerns raised by some election observer groups.
According to the leaders, organisations such as the Kenya Human Rights Commission, the Law Society of Kenya and ELOG highlighted the observations, though their reports varied.
During the briefing, the Opposition also criticised plans to privatise certain state-owned entities. The leaders claimed adequate public participation had not been undertaken.
“Sovereignty is not symbolic; it is constitutional. Every Kenyan has a stake, and we will defend it,” Eugene said.
Kalonzo added that the Opposition was concerned about the sale of public assets. On his part, Muturi criticised the Rironi–Mau Summit Road project. The dualling of the 170km Rironi-Naivasha-Mau Summit road started on November 28, 2025.
The road would facilitate movement and boost trade and, at the same time, bring an end to decades of agonising traffic gridlock, congestion, delays, and disastrous accidents.
