Raila should have used handshake to improve economy – MP

Africa-Press – Kenya. Matuga Mp Kassim Tandaza has said Azimio leader Raila Odinga should have looked into problems affecting Kenyans after engaging in the handshake with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Tandaza said that the current economic hardships and high unemployment levels in the country were there before the elections.

He claimed that former Prime Minister Raila did not do enough to solve the problem for Kenyans.

“We agree that people are facing very hard economic times, youths are jobless, graduates are jobless, that is a fact and we cannot deny that. But did that start as from August 9 to date? Why couldn’t he have held demonstrations then and the numbers were there?” Tandaza said on K24 on Thursday.

The MP said prices of flour have gone down in comparison to previous periods.

He said that the Kenya Kwanza government should direct its efforts towards lowering the cost of fuel in order to simultaneously improve the standards of living.

“If you want to bring the cost of living down, you bring the cost of power down. If you want to spur manufacturing you bring the cost of power down,” he said.

“As long as we cannot bring the cost of power down then we’ll never achieve manufacturing. We will not be competitive in the global market.”
