Senator Wambua: Why I missed Azimio running mate panel presser

Africa-Press – Kenya. The absence of Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua at the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance running mate selection panel presser sparked speculation.

Wambua was the only panel member missing.

The press conference held on Thursday divulged that the names of three top candidates have been forwarded to ODM leader Raila Odinga for consideration.

Raila is thereafter expected to name his preferred running mate after assessing the report.

Wambua who was fronted to the panel to represent the Wiper party and ostensibly the interest of his leader Kalonzo Musyoka was conspicuously missing as the panel Chair Noah Wekesa delivered an update on the selection process.

When contacted, Wambua confided to the Star that he missed the presser to be present in the Senate because a school from his county was visiting parliament.

He, however, declined to divulge the details of the verdict of the selection panel promising to do so later on.

“There is a visiting delegation of students and teachers in the Senate from a school in my county. These kids would really have been disappointed not to hear from their senator on the floor of the Senate,” he said.

But the presser being a matter of a few minutes, in fact, it did not last more than 1o minutes, could Wambua be having a deeper reason?

Noah Wekesa revealed that Wambua was last with them on Wednesday and presumed that he had left them to focus on his campaigns given that he is a candidate.

“All of us who are remaining here are not candidates. He left us for his political engagements considering that he is participating in the elections,” he said.

The explanation comes even as reports suggest that Kalonzo, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua and Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth are the three names submitted to Raila.

Kanu secretary general Fredrick Okango appeared to confirm that the report could be true.

“Our candidate @RailaOdinga now has a constitutional duty to nominate one person out of the three (SKM, MK and PM) who is qualified for nomination for election as President, as a candidate for Deputy President. Who do you think he/she will be?” he tweeted.

Wekesa said the names were presented in order of priority.

“The panel wishes to inform the public that it has dispatched its final recommendations to the candidate this morning,” Wekesa said.

“This follows the inability of the candidate to disengage from the political exercise he is involved in to come to us today to receive the report.”
