Africa-Press – Kenya. Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma now says that it is important for President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga to hold talks.
According to the MP, election rigging has for a long time been the reason for the lack of peace and stability in Kenya.
He said this has also highly affected the economic prosperity of Kenya.
Kaluma stated that the ongoing Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissioners recruitment process is one-sided and will thus create electoral disputes in future.
He insisted that the process of political parties nominating individuals to the IEBC selection panel needs to be fair and inclusive.
“Election rigging has beset peace and stability and Kenya’s economic progress for far too long. The formation of the Selection Panel and the ongoing process of recruiting IEBC Commissioners is one-sided UDA affair, and is certain harbinger for chaos in future,” Kaluma said.
“Kenya can no longer form IEBC with election rigging in mind. Let there be a fair and inclusive process of nominating Commissioners by Political Parties. Proceeding as is happening is planting seeds for electoral disputes with risks to national stability in future.”
The legislator added that because of this, the president and opposition leader need to compromise and hold talks.
Kaluma said the talks can even be specifically about Electoral reforms.
He said this will contribute greatly to ensuring national stability.
“President William Ruto and Right Honourable Prime Minister Raila Odinga must now talk, even if just over this matter of Electoral Reforms, for the sake of national stability.”
Kaluma’s remarks come amidst calls by the Azimio la Umoja side for electoral reforms.
Electoral reforms have been an issue of debate after the former Commissioners disagreed on the results of the August 9 presidential elections.
