Africa-Press – Malawi. President of Odya Zake Alibe Mulandu Michael Usi has accused some public servants of undermining orders from President Lazarus Chakwera.

Usi said this at Nyambadwe ground in Blantyre during a political party that he held.

The State Vice President said Chakwera wishes the country well but that he was being frustrated by some public servants.

“On the issue of fuel [government-to-government] deal, the President went there and discussed the issue with officials but there are some officials who do not fear the President and have also been going there [outside the country] to make their own agreements. These are the people that did not swear to be State President,” he said.

Usi further said Chakwera was not to blame for most of the failures of the country’s administration.

“For instance, on the issue of fertiliser, the President ordered relevant authorities to ensure that beneficiaries [of the Affordable Inputs Programme] redeem their fertiliser coupons in good time but was frustrated by these people. They do not listen to the President because they consider themselves as being closer to the President and belonging to a certain party,” he said.

The veep further called for actions against such officers.

“These people have to be questioned and arrested. If these people were punished, things could have changed in the country. If we are to leave such officials scot-free, such tendencies will continue. These are the people who are destroying the country,” he said.

Usi further said his party was in talks with other bigger parties for a possible electoral alliance.

“You recall that I was the last person to obtain nomination papers. This is because I was waiting for other parties to approach us for an alliance. Instead, every party wants to go it alone.

“However, today [Monday] I am meeting officials of a certain party and tomorrow [Tuesday] I am also meeting officials of other bigger parties for an alliance. I am not seeking positions of president or running mate. If you see me on the ballot, know that the talks have failed,” he said.
