Africa-Press – Mauritius. The New Link Road B70 – A23, which aims at ensuring traffic fluidity at La Brasserie, was inaugurated yesterday by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, and is operational as from 10 00 hrs today.

The Minister of Tourism, Mr Richard Duval; the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr Michaël Sik Yuen; representatives of the Road Development Authority; and other personalities were also present.

In a statement Minister Gunness pointed out that the Link Road constructed to the tune of around Rs 15 million and stretching over some 120 metres is part of a larger infrastructural project which will be extended to the regions of Robinson and Les Casernes, in Curepipe. In this context, land acquisition procedures are under way and plans are being finalised, he stated.

Minister Gunness further indicated that the new link road will contribute to ease traffic in the region especially during the forthcoming Maha Shivaratree Festival.

Following the inauguration ceremony, Ministers Gunness, Duval and Sik Yuen proceeded with the launching of works for the construction of drains at Couvent Street in Curepipe. The project, amounting to some Rs 131 million, is being carried out along Tout Court and Elias Coowar lanes. Works will then be extended to the regions of Camp Levieux, Wooton, Engrais Cathan, Quatre Carreaux, Gilbert Joson and Giquel.

The drainage project aims to mitigate flood risks in the region and ensure that inhabitants are safe during heavy rainfalls.
