Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambique’s President Daniel Chapo yesterday arrived in Guinea-Bissau where he will participate this Friday in the 15th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), in the city of Bissau.
The opening session is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. local time, 12:00 p.m. in Mozambique, and will be delivered by the president of the host republic, Omaro Sissoco Embalo.
The Summit brings together the highest-ranking representatives of the CPLP member states and will be held under the theme “The CPLP and Food Sovereignty: A Path to Sustainable Development,” with the aim of strengthening multilateral cooperation and agreeing on common strategies to promote food security and sustainable development in the community countries.
Mozambique’s participation in this Summit reaffirms the country’s commitment to the founding values of the CPLP and its determination to actively contribute to strengthening solidarity, shared development, and the integration of Portuguese-speaking peoples.
In addition to the CPLP member countries, which include Mozambique, Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe, Timor-Leste, and Equatorial Guinea, the 15th Summit will also feature the participation of several countries and international organizations, the document states.
Accompanying the Mozambican Head of State on his visit to the Guinean capital are the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria dos Santos Lucas; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Mozambique and Permanent Representative Designated to the CPLP, Stella Novo Zeca; the Secretary of State for Land and Environment, Gustavo Dgedge; and other officials from the Presidency of the Republic and government institutions.
Yesterday, President Chapo met with Mozambicans residing in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, informing them of the government’s actions to boost the national economy.
For their part, our compatriots said they have been monitoring the country’s political, social, and economic situation and are pleased to have received assurances from the President of the Republic that he will continue working to achieve social harmony and well-being.
“According to his speech with us, he reassured us that our country is beginning to move toward peace and development, because that concerns us. We can return to our country, and that he has the spirit of unity, inclusiveness, and the desire to work with everyone. That’s great for us. What we want is for Mozambique to develop,” said Alexandrina Mané, speaking in Bissau, representing the 12 Mozambicans residing and working in Guinea-Bissau, during their meeting with the Head of State.
