THE Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Dr Emma Kantema-Gaomas, has invited the public to attend the National Women’s Day and International Human Rights Day commemorations today in Katima Mulilo. The event aims to promote gender equality to help combat gender-based violence and honour Namibia’s human rights commitments, including remembrance of the historic Old Location uprising.

Speaking ahead of the commemorations, Dr Kantema-Gaomas said Namibia will join the international community in marking International Human Rights Day and Namibia Women’s Day. The ministry will host the event in Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi Region, and the minister encouraged residents of the region and the wider public to participate.

This year’s observance will take place under the theme “United to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.” The minister added that the event forms part of the ongoing 16 Days of Activism campaign, which was launched in Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas Region under the same theme.
