Africa-Press – Namibia. Presidential adviser and head of the upstream petroleum unit Kornelia Shilunga says Namibia’s oil and gas resources must benefit all citizens – not just a select few.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Youth in Oil and Gas Summit at Walvis Bay last week, Shilunga called for a petroleum sector rooted in integrity, inclusion, and bold leadership.

“This industry is not for a selected few. It belongs to all Namibians,” she said, adding that young people must be equipped and empowered to lead the country to a sustainable energy future.

“Oil and gas are a national treasure, a golden opportunity for every Namibian – from students and entrepreneurs to innovators. This is your industry, and your participation today proves that you are ready to shape it.”

Shilunga said young people are not just the future of the oil and gas industry, but also its driving force.

She urged the youth to approach the sector with caution, responsibility, and awareness.

“We must recognise that this revolution must be responsible. The oil and gas sector must uphold the highest standards of environmental protection and social accountability,” she said.

Shilunga reiterated that Namibia’s energy resources must not become the domain of a privileged elite.
