Africa-Press – Nigeria. Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed during a fire outbreak in one of the markets in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The incident occured at Ayetoto market, Egbeda Atuba Road in Ibadan on Monday.
Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande confirmed the incident. He added that no casualty was recorded.
Akinwande in a statement made available on Tuesday added that the fire incident was as a result of electric spark from an inverter installed in one of the shops.
The statement said, “Upon arrival, it was five shops engulfed by fire.
“No casualty was recorded, five shops out of nine were affected and the fire incident was as a result of electric sparks from inverter installed in one of the shops ignited nearby combustibles and set the shops ablaze.
“Appliance returned to the station by 18:03hrs and on standby duty.”
