Africa-Press – Rwanda. Frenchman Valentin Royer cemented his dominance in Kigali by winning the ATP Rwanda Challenger 100, defeating Dutchman Guy Den Ouden 6-3, 6-4 in Sunday’s final at IPRC-Kigali Ecology Tennis Club.
The fourth seed, who also claimed the ATP Rwanda Challenger 75 last week, continued his impressive dominance in the Rwandan capital, securing his second title in as many weeks without dropping a set in the final.
Royer faced a determined Den Ouden, who reached his first ATP Challenger final after a strong campaign, including a quarterfinal win over second seed Calvin Hemery.
However, the Frenchman’s consistency and powerful baseline play proved too tough for him to take down, as he wrapped up the match in straight sets.
With this victory, Royer extends his winning streak in Kigali, further establishing himself as a rising force on the ATP Challenger circuit.
“it is very fortunate for me being here with the second trophy. My time here was a great success,” said the 23-year-old.
He extended his gratitude to the fans for supporting him throughout his past two weeks on Kigali’s clay courts.
“Tennis players show emotions and you guys, the crowd, make me feel nervous, but thank you for your support. I felt welcomed, from the first week, by such nice people, such nice citizens, I will come back for sure,” he added.
Meanwhile, in the doubles final, India’s Siddhant Banthia and Bulgaria’s Alexander Donski were crowned champions after edging France’s Geoffrey Blancaneaux and Czech partner Zdenek Kolar 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 in a thrilling contest.
