Wisdom Aces withdraw from 2025/26 National Volleyball League

Africa-Press – Rwanda. Wisdom Aces (WSD) women’s volleyball club has withdrawn from the 2025/26 National Volleyball League, which is set to kick off on Friday, October 17.

The Musanze-based team decided to step back to reassess its progress and strengthen its long-term vision of nurturing young volleyball talents.

The club made its competitive debut in Division Two in 2023 and eventually earned promotion to the topflight league. But after one season, the school decided to withdraw the team.

“Our team will not return to the league this year. The board has decided to develop a better youth-sports model for next season,” team president Christian Nduwayezu told Times Sport.

Nduwayezu explained that, under the Aces Foundation, the management board will focus on investing in youth development, academic excellence, nutrition, and mental health while strengthening fundamental volleyball skills before rethinking the return to the league.

The club’s withdrawal has been linked to financial challenges and lack of facilities to host home games. However, Nduwayezu was quick to dismiss the reports.

“Everyone’s perception of what happened is different. Honestly, it was my initiative to see how far my team and I could go before establishing a full-fledged sports institution,” he explained.

In line with this vision, the Aces Foundation has begun setting up sports academies in 10 of the 15 Wisdom School campuses across the country. Five volleyball courts are currently under construction across the campuses.

Following the club’s withdrawal, the number of teams confirmed to feature in the 2025/26 women’s national league has now reduced to seven, according to the Rwanda Volleyball Federation (FRVB).

They include APR WVC, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA), Police WVC, Kepler WVC, East Africa University Rwanda (EAUR), Rwanda Polytechnic Huye College, and Ruhango WVC.No
