Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Mayor of Freetown City, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, chaired a major panel discussion titled ‘Political Party Development: Building Partnerships with Think Tanks and Academia’ at an all-political-parties conference in Accra, Ghana.

The event featured the All People’s Congress (APC) Acting National Chairman, Amb Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh, who made insightful contributions during the earlier panel session on “Political Parties and National Development Planning.”

The conference was held as a key session of the All African Political Parties Summit, which aims to unite political party leaders from across Africa to engage in discussions centered on unity, good governance, democracy, and development throughout the continent.

In her opening speech, Aki-Sawyerr emphasized the importance of collaboration between political parties, think tanks, and academic institutions in fostering sustainable development.

The high level engagement, which attracted delegates from over 30 African countries, provides a valuable platform for exchanging ideas and strategies.

During the discussions, key challenges facing political parties were highlighted, including the lack of democratic space for opposition parties, the need for greater inclusion of women and youth in governance, and issues surrounding transparency.

Mayor Aki-Sawyerr affirmed the necessity of addressing those challenges to enhance democratic practices and governance in Sierra Leone and beyond.

As the conference continues over the next two days, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr expressed her commitment to fostering dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders involved in national development.
