New Agri-Tech Centre of Excellence Opens in Masiaka

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Ministry of Youth Affairs, in partnership with Future Farms, has launched a new Agri-Tech Center of Excellence at the Masiaka Youth Farm to boost skills and opportunities for young people.

This new development is aimed at creating more opportunities for young people in agriculture while helping to improve food production in the country.

The launch event took place in Masiaka and brought together many people from the community. Paramount Chief Bomboli and his team were present, along with women leaders from Masiaka and young people who traveled from different parts of the district to attend. The strong turnout showed growing interest in the project and what it could mean for the future of farming in the region.

The center will become a place where young farmers can learn new and better ways to grow crops and raise animals. It will feature greenhouses, modern irrigation systems, and tools to help farmers deal with the effects of changing weather. These additions will make it easier for youth to grow crops successfully and with less risk.

The training at the center will focus on mixed farming. Young people will be taught how to grow vegetables, peppers, maize, and rice using new methods. There will also be training in poultry farming. All of this will help participants learn skills they can use to start or improve their own farms. The program is open to all youth, and this includes persons with special needs, to make sure everyone gets a chance to take part and benefit.

This project was made possible with solid national backing from President Julius Maada Bio. His focus on helping youth through agriculture has played a big role in getting the center started. Many people see this step as one that could make a real difference in both youth employment and food supply across the country.

The Agri-Tech Center of Excellence is now officially in its first phase of development. Work has started at the Masiaka Youth Farm, and the first group of participants will soon begin their training. With time, the center is expected to grow and welcome even more young people from other parts of Sierra Leone.

By combining farming, technology, and practical training in one place, the Ministry of Youth Affairs aims to give young people the skills and tools they need to succeed in agriculture. This initiative offers hope for a future where youth can build stronger livelihoods and contribute to their communities through farming and innovation.
