Government Leaders Discuss Technology at Sierra Leone Summit

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Top government officials and industry experts gathered at Sierra Leone Innovates 2025 to chart the future of technology and digital development in the country.

The “Sierra Leone Innovates” summit from June 4th to 6th, 2025, focused on the future of technology and its role in sustainable economic growth.

Organized by the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation, the summit was held under the theme, “5+ Years of NIDS: Building the Skills to Drive Sustainable Economic Growth and National Development.”

Over 1,000 participants, including government officials, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and students, gathered at the event to explore advancements in technology and innovation.

The summit featured more than 30 masterclasses, one-on-one “Meet the Employer” sessions, and tech talks aimed at equipping attendees with the skills necessary to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

A major portion of the event was dedicated to discussions on the future of technology in Sierra Leone. The Presidential Fireside Chat provided a platform for government leaders to share insights on strategic initiatives aimed at fostering innovation and collaboration between the public and private sectors.

During the event, emphasis was further placed on the importance of building a robust technological infrastructure to support economic development.

The Tech Job Fair, launched in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, facilitated connections between job seekers and employers in the technology field.

Another key highlight was the unveiling of the EduCube Hub, designed to enhance educational opportunities for aspiring tech professionals. Participants were also encouraged to present their innovative ideas during the Big 5 Innovation Investment Challenge, aimed at identifying and supporting promising startups.

The government announced the launch of a 5G open access network, a transformative initiative expected to significantly improve internet connectivity across the nation. The summit concluded with the Innovators Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the technology sector in Sierra Leone.
