Sierra Leone Reports New Mpox Case and Eight Recoveries

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The National Public Health Agency (NPHA) reported a new Mpox case and eight recoveries in Sierra Leone as of Monday, August 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM, signaling ongoing efforts to monitor the outbreak.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases since the start of the outbreak to 5,115, with 4,961 recoveries and 50 deaths. The country currently has 104 active cases.

Western Urban remains the hardest-hit district with 2,842 cases, followed by Western Rural (1,025 cases) and Bombali (312 cases). Other districts reporting significant numbers include Kenema (134 cases) and Port Loko (204 cases). Districts like Pujehun (14 cases) and Kailahun (16 cases) have reported the lowest totals so far.

The NPHA continues to urge citizens to follow preventive guidelines, which include avoiding close contact with suspected cases, practicing good hand hygiene, and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms appear. Public health officials emphasize that early detection and isolation remain crucial in curbing community spread.

The agency also reminded the public that free testing and treatment are available at designated health facilities nationwide, and citizens can call 117 to report suspected cases or get more information.

Since the first detection of Mpox in Sierra Leone, health authorities have intensified surveillance, public awareness campaigns, and vaccination for at-risk groups to reduce transmission and protect communities.
