Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu, welcomed Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Lieutenant General, Amara Idara Bangura at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess in Kingtom Police Barracks on Friday, July 11th, 2025.
The visit notably aimed at strengthening efforts to enhance cooperation between the Sierra Leone Police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.
Accompanied by newly promoted senior military officers, Lieutenant General Bangura’s visit was described as historic by IGP Sellu. The meeting focused on reinforcing operational synergy and mutual understanding between the two agencies.
IGP Sellu congratulated the newly elevated military officers and stressed the importance of inter-agency collaboration for effective security delivery. “Effective security delivery requires collaboration, not isolation,” he stated, affirming the ongoing Police-Military Cooperation (POMIC) training program as a key initiative for improving joint operations.
He proposed establishing joint social engagements to build camaraderie between police and military personnel, noting, “One agency’s strength complements the other’s weakness.”
Lieutenant General Bangura supported IGP Sellu’s sentiments, emphasizing that national security relies on close coordination between the police and military. “Just like two hands clapping, our collaboration is vital for peace and stability,” he said.
The CDS pointed to successful initiatives, such as providing motorbikes for border patrols, which have increased public confidence in the security sector.
He also mentioned praise from President Dr. Julius Maada Bio for the unprecedented cooperation between the armed forces and police, urging military commanders to replicate this partnership at the regional level.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to form a technical cooperation team to develop social and professional engagement activities aimed at strengthening institutional ties. Both leaders reassured their commitment to continued collaboration in safeguarding peace and security in Sierra Leone.
