Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Judiciary of Sierra Leone, through its Chief Justice, Komba Kamanda, has announced the provision of uniforms for all Registrars, Drivers, Administrative Staff, Bailiffs, Office Assistants, and Cleaners of the Judiciary.
The initiative is designed to promote professionalism and facilitate the easy identification of legitimate staff members across the country.
The introduction of uniforms came in response to ongoing issues with impersonation within the Judiciary. Certain individuals, referred to as “Professional Sureties,” have exploited the public by posing as Judiciary staff and extorting money from unsuspecting litigants. The new uniforms are expected to clearly distinguish authentic staff from imposters, thereby enhancing public trust in the judicial system.
Joanitta Dauda, Human Resource Manager, Judiciary of Siera Leone emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “This will not only identify our staff; it is a decisive measure that strengthens trust and transparency in the judicial process.”
Echoing this sentiment, Hulaimatu F. Christian-Moses, the Deputy Master and Registrar, noted that the reform reflects the Chief Justice’s commitment to integrity, accountability, and service delivery within the Judiciary.
She described the initiative as “a proactive approach that sets a positive tone for future reforms and shows that the Judiciary is serious about restoring public confidence in the justice system.”
Staff members have also expressed their support for the initiative. Mohamed Lamin Kamara, the Administrative Assistant at the Fast Track Commercial Court, praised the Chief Justice for this strategic step, saying, “It is a clear signal that Sierra Leone’s Judiciary is on the path to becoming more efficient and people-focused.”
The Chief Justice has called on all staff to embrace this change by being punctual and dressing smartly to represent the Judiciary with pride. He assured them of his commitment to working collaboratively to make the Judiciary a respected institution.
