Lawyer Repays Le400 for Client in Granite Fraud Case

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. A 30-year-old laborer, Ibrahim Turay, was cautioned and discharged by Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura of Pademba Road Court No. 8 after pleading guilty to a charge of obtaining money by false pretenses, in violation of Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to court records, the offence occurred between June 1st and 30th, 2025, at Addidas Drive, Hill Station, Freetown. Turay was accused of fraudulently obtaining the sum of Le400 from a woman identified as Hawa Keran. He had falsely claimed he would supply granite stones to her; a promise he had no intention of fulfilling.

Upon arraignment and after the charge was read and explained to him, Turay entered a guilty plea. His legal representative, Ibrahim Turay Esq., informed the court of his client’s willingness to refund the money. The counsel committed to repaying the Le400 to the complainant.

In light of the guilty plea and the offer to reimburse the victim, Magistrate Samura exercised discretion in sentencing. The accused was issued a formal caution and discharged, meaning he avoided custodial punishment.

The case was investigated by Detective Police Constable 14898, who brought the matter before the court. Following the resolution of the case, Magistrate Samura concluded proceedings with the caution and discharge order. No further legal action is expected in the matter as the court considers it closed.
