Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Sierra Leone’s President, who doubles as the leader of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party [SLPP], Julius Maada Bio, made it clear that his party is ready to make history by winning the upcoming 2028 elections.
Speaking to delegates at the SLPP’s 14th National Delegates Conference in Freetown on July 30, 2025, Bio said no political party in Sierra Leone has ever won three general elections in a row, declaring that the SLPP is going to be the first to do it.
He reminded the party that he had lost elections, and he had also won elections, but had never turned his back on the SLPP. He stated that his loyalty has always been to the party’s core values and that this loyalty must guide every decision as the party moves forward.
The conference was held at the Freetown International Conference Centre and brought together delegates across the country. Delegates turned to the main work of electing the remaining national executive members who will help drive the party’s goal of securing a third straight national victory.
As the party prepares for the 2028 elections, President Bio told the delegates that politics should never be treated as a fight. He explained that debate is a natural part of politics and that disagreement does not mean betrayal. He said this is the time to show discipline and unity because the goal ahead is bigger than any one person, it is about making history by giving the SLPP a third straight win at the polls.
President Bio took time to thank the outgoing executive for their work. He reminded everyone that it is now the party’s responsibility to build on those achievements and remain focused on the larger goal of winning again and doing what no party in Sierra Leone has done before.
Delegates at the conference are now tasked with choosing the new leadership team that will guide the party into its next chapter. But the message from President Bio remains strong and clear: no party has ever won three elections in a row in Sierra Leone, and the SLPP is ready to change that and make history.
