Port Loko Fullah Tribal Head Dies After Inauguration

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Fullah community of Port Loko District is mourning the sudden death of their newly inaugurated tribal head, Chief Alhaji Sulaiman Bah, who passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025—just 52 days after assuming the revered position.

The respected community elder, whose inauguration was held with fanfare in Lunsar on May 31, 2025, had pledged a unifying and inclusive leadership. Installed by the Council of Fula Tribal Heads from Freetown and warmly welcomed by both traditional rulers and national figures, Alhaji Bah’s reign was expected to usher in a new era of stability and progress for the Fula people in Port Loko.

His sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the district and beyond. The Fullah Tribal Administration (FTA) in Sierra Leone has released an official obituary, expressing deep sorrow over the loss.

“We extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Port Loko District, and the entire nation,” read the statement signed by Chief Alhaji Alimammy Mohamed Sarjoh Jalloh, Fullah Tribal Head of Sierra Leone.

Alhaji Bah’s brief but impactful leadership was marked by his heartfelt call for unity: “Inshallah, Port Loko will be one,” he had declared during his inauguration speech, receiving warm applause from dignitaries including Presidential Spokesman Alhaji Alpha Kanu and Resident Minister Ambassador Umaru Bond Wurrie.

The funeral ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, July 23, 2025, in Lunsar, where he will be laid to rest amid a community still reeling from grief.

Chief Abdulai Sow of Masiaka, who was installed as deputy during the inauguration, is expected to provide interim leadership as the Fula community grapples with the sudden vacuum.

Chief Alhaji Sulaiman Bah’s legacy, though short-lived in office, will be remembered for his longstanding service and dedication to the ideals of unity, justice, and cultural pride.
