Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The Legit Group, a youth-led organization in Port Loko, has announced the rollout of its Annual Cemeteries Cleaning Project. The exercise is set to begin in September 2025, targeting seven major cemeteries across the city.

The cemeteries scheduled for cleaning include Baghdad Cemetery, Upper Falaba Cemetery, Kondato Cemetery, Moyeba Cemetery, Old Port Loko Cemetery – Maforkie Chiefdom, Taneneh Cemetery and Masama Cemetery.

According to organizers, the initiative is designed to restore dignity, cleanliness, and respect to the city’s burial grounds, which they describe as the “last home” for every human being. “One day, we will all be like those resting in these cemeteries. Keeping our last home clean is a mark of respect for the departed,” said the Legit Group Cemetery Coordinator. This year’s project will run under the theme: “One Day We Will Be Like You.” The group is calling on all patriotic residents of Port Loko, at home and abroad, to join hands in supporting the effort, stressing that the work is both a health drive for the living and a spiritual duty to the dead.

Community elders have praised the initiative, describing it as a model of youth leadership and civic responsibility.

The Legit Group says it remains committed to giving back to society and ensuring that cemeteries in Port Loko are kept clean, dignified, and sanitary for generations to come.
