Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio has made it clear that he has not endorsed any candidate for the Sierra Leone People’s Party flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He made this statement during the SLPP’s 14th National Delegates Conference in 2025, where interest is already growing around who will lead the party into the next presidential race. His message comes at a time when some party members are showing interest in the position.
At the event, President Bio said he is not backing any individual and wished all possible candidates well. He added that the best candidate will emerge through the right process.
His position has attracted attention in both the media and within the party. Many had been watching for signs of an endorsement, but the President’s message has put those expectations to rest. By staying neutral, he has placed attention back on fairness and unity.
At the same conference, SLPP delegates also spoke about the party’s future. Some shared the belief that the flagbearer for 2028 is already chosen by divine guidance. While that view was shared among delegates, President Bio’s message remained focused on process and unity, not personal support.
He also advised party members to stay focused, remain disciplined, and avoid early campaigning. He reminded them to continue working together and stay committed to the values of the party.
With the 2028 elections on the horizon, the SLPP now enters a key phase. The President’s decision not to endorse anyone has kept the field open, leaving it to the members and the process ahead to decide who will lead the party forward.
