President Bio Outlines Criteria for SLPP 2028 Candidates

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius Maada Bio, has outlined five critical criteria for candidates aspiring to become the flagbearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) in the upcoming 2028 National Elections.

His remarks were made during the 14th National Delegate Conference held at the Freetown International Conference Centre, which gathered a large number SLPP delegates from across the country to elect their National Executive Members.

In his address, President Bio emphasized the importance of selecting a leader who possesses “the skill set to win the General Elections.” He highlighted the need for candidates to demonstrate “maturity to heal divisions” within the party and “wisdom to reach across factions.”

President Bio further called for “courage to embrace opponents” and a “proven record and natural ability to lead this Party, and our nation forward.”

He boldly reaffirmed that the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Flagbearer must embody the following five criteria:

The skill set to win the General

Elections.

The maturity to heal divisions.

The wisdom to reach across factions.

The courage to embrace opponents.

And the proven record and natural ability to lead this Party, and our nation forward.

“Politics is not war. Debate is not destruction. Disagreement is not betrayal,” President Bio asserted, stressing the importance of constructive dialogue and unity in the political process.

President Bio noted the significance of the gathering, stating, “We have convened here to elect the remaining National Executive Members of our great party, a responsibility that demands our integrity, unity, and vision.”

He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing executive, led by Dr. Prince Alex Harding, for their contributions to the party’s electoral successes in 2018 and 2023. “Now it is our collective duty to build upon that legacy,” he concluded.
