Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. President Julius Maada Bio has approved significant leadership changes at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), effective immediately, according to a press release from the Ministry of Energy.

Dr. Joe Lahai-Sormana, currently the Director General of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), has been relieved of his duties. Ing. James Rogers, the Deputy Director General, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer and serve as the interim head of management. The substantive Director General and Deputy Director General will be appointed at a later date.

The Ministry of Energy stated that these changes are part of ongoing efforts to reform EDSA and are intended to initiate a comprehensive reform initiative encompassing several key areas:

Establishment of a centralized revenue collection account.

Increased private sector participation in electricity distribution.

Deployment of prepaid, tamper-proof meters for T4 customers.

Comprehensive overhaul of EDSA’s ICT infrastructure.

Targeted staff training and capacity building.

Direct oversight of the Project Implementation Unit by the Ministry of Energy.

Additionally, the release indicated that the holders of the following positions have been directed to proceed on leave immediately: The Commercial Manager, The Head of Revenue Collection, The Head of Technical Commercial Operations, and The Marketing Manager.

The Ministry of Energy reaffirmed President Bio’s strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and the sustainable transformation of Sierra Leone’s energy sector.
