SLPP United and Focused on 2028 Says Chief Minister

Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has said that the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is now more organised, united, and focused on delivering for the people as it moves toward the next national elections in 2028.

In a public message following the party’s National Delegates Conference, he outlined that the SLPP had successfully completed a six-month internal election process.

Leadership positions were filled across all levels of the party, from zones and wards to constituencies, districts, regions, and even chapters abroad, demonstrating what he described as a strong and engaged party base.

According to him, the elections were conducted peacefully and fairly, with wide participation from members of the party. He noted that many observers, including members of the opposition, acknowledged the success of the internal process and described it as well-managed and inclusive.

“The SLPP is stronger and more united today,” he wrote, calling on others to be part of the party’s ongoing work.

Chief Minister Sengeh explained that the party is now entering a new phase of activity, focusing more deeply on its grassroots. He said the new executive reflects a broad national base, with individuals from every region of the country. According to him, both young people and elders are now working together in renewed unity to support the party’s work at the community level.

He also spoke about the strength of the party’s internal wings. The Young Generation Council, he said, is full of hope and energy, while the Women’s Council is preparing new strategies to mobilize and engage more women members across the country. He added that people within the SLPP are not waiting around; they are actively organising and moving forward, from Freetown to Ghana and beyond.

Chief Minister Sengeh said that the newly elected National Chairman, Jimmy Batilo Songa, has already started visiting party members and addressing welfare concerns. He noted that the chairman’s early efforts have been focused on reconnecting with grassroots supporters, both in Sierra Leone and in the diaspora, and that his approach is being received well by members at different levels.

President Julius Maada Bio, who remains the SLPP Party Leader, continues to lead the party. Sengeh noted that the president’s long-standing commitment to national development, welfare, and inclusion has shaped the SLPP’s current approach and continues to influence the way the party engages with citizens.

As Chair of the SLPP Constitution Review Committee, Chief Minister Sengeh also spoke about his own role in shaping reforms within the party. He said that the process of reviewing the constitution and improving internal systems is ongoing and that this moment is one where people across the party are contributing ideas, learning from one another, and staying focused on shared goals.

“We remain focused on our path to victory in 2028 because we know the people need us,” he wrote.

Chief Minister Sengeh ended his message by sharing the SLPP’s message of unity and national purpose. He pointed to the party’s slogan: One Country One People. SLPP, the only way out, the only way through, the only way forward, describing it as a reflection of the party’s direction and collective spirit.
