Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The United Nations Development Pragramme in Sierra Leone (UNDP) has officially launched the “Enabling Economic Independence for Especially Abled Persons in Sierra Leone” project. On 11 July 2025.
The landmark initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Social Welfare and UNDP, with generous support from the 🇮🇳 India-UN Development Partnership Fund (Commonwealth Window).
Furthermore, the event drew a large and vibrant gathering of persons with disabilities, who are not only beneficiaries but also key contributors shaping the project’s direction. Their active participation highlighted the project’s central mission: to create inclusive economic opportunities that empower rather than exclude.
“Let this not be just a ceremony, but the spark of a national conversation on accessibility, empowerment, and equality. May this project be one of many steps toward fully embracing persons with disabilities as equal citizens.” H.E. Mr. Baisnab Charan Pradhan, High Commissioner of India in Sierra Leone.
He further stated that Inclusion is not a gesture; it’s governance in action. It is justice delivered through access, equity, opportunity, and empowerment.

It underscores that inclusion is not charity, but justice, not about sympathy, but about rights, and not optional, but essential to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.” Fredrick Ampiah, Resident Representative of UNDP in Sierra Leone.
This three-year project will focus on rehabilitation services, vocational training, and social inclusion, directly contributing to Sustainable Development Goals 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
