Africa-Press – Sierra-Leone. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has announced the successful completion of a ten-day Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) Pretest and Training of Trainers (ToT) program.

The initiative is poised to strengthen data quality and enhance national statistical capacity in preparation for the nationwide rollout of the seventh round of the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS-7).

The training, held from August 4 to 13, brought together 32 staff members from Stats SL’s Demographic Health & Social Statistics and Data Science Divisions.

Participants received intensive instruction on digital data collection tools, standardized interview protocols, and the comprehensive suite of MICS-7 questionnaires.

Those questionnaires cover a wide range of indicators, including child health and nutrition, education, water and sanitation, child protection, early childhood development, and domestic violence.

The key objectives of the training were to enhance participants’ capacity to effectively use modern CAPI technology for accurate and efficient data collection, pretest the CAPI system in real-world settings, develop a cadre of master trainers for future field staff training, and ensure consistency and quality in data collection processes aligned with international MICS standards.

MICS, supported globally by UNICEF, is a leading household survey program designed to generate internationally comparable and statistically robust data on the health and well-being of women and children.

Notably, the insights obtained from the survey will be instrumental in guiding national policymaking, donor investments, and targeted development programs aimed at improving the lives of children and families in Sierra Leone.
