Africa-Press – South-Sudan. The SPLM party and the Juba-based Stephen Par Kuol faction of the SPLM-IO have commenced high-level discussions aimed at forging closer political cooperation in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
The SPLM-IO delegation, including Lasuba Wongo, Minister of Federal Affairs, and former Deputy Finance Minister Agok Makur, paid an official visit to Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, SPLM Secretary General, to discuss the upcoming December 2026 elections.
The meeting also focused on the implementation of the R-ARCSS, challenges affecting its progress, and the joint commitment to hold elections by 2026 as outlined in the extended peace roadmap.
Speaking to the press after the meeting, SPLM Secretary General Akol Paul said it is the duty of all political parties to work together to build a strong and unified nation.
Akol highlighted that achieving this goal requires broad cooperation among political stakeholders, partners, and citizens from all walks of life.
He called upon all signatories to the R-ARCSS, development partners, and friends of South Sudan to collaborate in ensuring the country successfully holds peaceful elections by the end of 2026, creating a stable environment for development and improved service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the SPLM-IO delegation, Agok Makur Kur described the meeting as crucial and productive.
He said discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in implementing the peace agreement and working together to overcome past conflicts.
He added that both sides are committed to fully implementing the peace agreement, improving service delivery for all citizens, and ensuring credible and peaceful general elections in 2026.
Agok expressed hope that such engagements and cooperation would continue.
