Africa-Press – Tanzania. ALLIANCE for African Farmers Party (AAFP) presidential candidate, Mr Kunje Ngombale-Mwiru, has called on Tanzanians to uphold and protect peace, especially as the country prepares for the 2025 General Election.
Speaking on Thursday during a campaign rally at Mlandizi Ward in Kibaha District, Coast Region, Mr Ngombare-Mwiru emphasised that national stability is the cornerstone of development, cautioning against actions that could undermine it.
“The peace we enjoy today is the result of a strong foundation built over many years. We must value and maintain peace, which allows us to carry out our daily activities without disruption. Once lost, it will not be easy to reinstate,” he cautioned.
The AAFP candidate reminded citizens that peace is not only a political necessity but also a social and economic asset.
According to him, sectors such as education, healthcare, business and agriculture thrive only when people live without fear of violence or insecurity.
He added that citizens must actively resist divisive politics, hate speech and act of intolerance that risk destabilising communities.
Turning to his party’s core agenda, Mr Mwiru highlighted agriculture as the top priority under AAFP’s leadership. He pointed out that Tanzania’s fertile land and water resources, if used productively, could transform the country into a food basket for the region.
“AAFP is committed to improving the lives of farmers by strengthening the agriculture sector through effective use of available resources, including fertile land and abundant water. Our country is blessed, and by fully harnessing these resources, we can grow diverse crops, earn foreign exchange and transform farmers’ livelihoods for the better,” he said.
Mr Mwiru pledged to support farmers, particularly those in the Ruvu River Basin, by providing modern farming equipment such as power tillers and irrigation technologies.
He stressed that mechanisation, coupled with access to markets, would not only increase production but also guarantee farmers better income and reduce rural poverty.
AAFP’s presidential running mate, Ms Chumu Abdallah, also addressed the rally, stressing education as a cornerstone of national development. She promised that, if elected, the party would provide free education from primary school to university.
“We want to assure Tanzanians that no child will be denied the opportunity to study due to lack of school fees. Our party has developed sound policies that guarantee free education for all,” she affirmed.
Ms Abdallah further explained that education investments would go hand in hand with skills development, ensuring young people are well prepared for employment opportunities both within Tanzania and abroad.
For her part, Shani Kitumbua, Chairperson of AAFP’s Women Wing, stressed that women and children’s rights would be a central focus of the party’s agenda.
“We will ensure women are empowered socially and economically to contribute effectively to their families and the nation. Additionally, we will fight against all forms of violence against women and children by raising public awareness and enforcing strict legal measures against offenders,” she emphasised.
The rally, which marked the official start of AAFP’s campaign in Coast Region, drew a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters. Party leaders urged citizens to rally behind AAFP’s vision of peace, prosperity and inclusive development.
