Africa-Press – Tanzania. CCM Presidential candidate Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan yesterday reaffirmed her commitment to advancing the Hoima–Tanga crude oil pipeline project (EACOP), if elected in the forthcoming General Election.

Addressing a campaign rally at Nanenane grounds in Tabora Municipality, Dr Samia described the project as a strategic investment that will unlock multiple economic benefits for Tanzania.

The EACOP passes through eight regions in Tanzania, covering about 1,147 kilometres of its total 1,443-kilometre route. These regions are Tabora, Kagera, Geita, Shinyanga, Singida, Dodoma, Manyara and Tanga, where the pipeline terminates at the Indian Ocean port.

The project is expected to stimulate economic growth across these areas by creating jobs, improving infrastructure, and opening up new opportunities in trade, energy and social services, while also positioning Tanzania as a key player in regional oil transportation.

Speaking about Tabora Region, Dr Samia pledged to revamp the municipality, restore its historic status and accelerate economic growth.

She noted that Tabora is a town with a rich legacy in the country’s struggle for independence, having hosted key events in the country’s political history.

“The Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, studied and later worked as a teacher here. In 1958, TANU made important decisions in Tabora that shaped the journey to independence. As we now pursue economic independence, Tabora remains a central pillar in this struggle,” she said.

If re-elected in October, she also promised to construct an 82-kilometre ring road to divert heavy vehicles from the town centre, reducing congestion and improving urban mobility.

She also announced plans to build 133 bridges across the region to ensure year-round accessibility of roads, ease the movement of people and goods and uplift the region’s economy.

The CCM presidential candidate further pledged to install 2,500 streetlights in Tabora Municipality to improve security and extend business operations into the night.

She highlighted that the expansion and renovation of Tabora Airport, now 95 per cent complete, will boost air transport and attract new investment into the region.

She also encouraged youths living along the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) corridor in Uyui, Tabora, Nzega and Kaliua districts to seize opportunities from the ongoing and future railway operations.

“With stations in all these districts, the SGR will beautify the region, create jobs and stimulate trade,” she said.

Dr Samia underscored her government’s commitment to continue implementing major development projects in various sectors including healthcare facilities, modern markets, schools and improved road networks.

Earlier, CCM Tabora Regional Chairman Mr Said Mkumba revealed that more than 4tri/- had been channelled to Tabora over the past four years for development projects, improving social services and expanding economic opportunities.

“Our vision is to build a transformative government that delivers development for all Tanzanians,” Dr Samia stressed.
