ACT-Wazalendo incurs a big loss as its 200 members join CCM

Africa-Press – Tanzania. OVER 200 members of the opposition party ACT-Wazalendo in Uvinza District, Kigoma Region, have officially joined the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), citing their satisfaction with the leadership of the Tanzanian President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, and her government.

The new members were received by CCM Kigoma Regional Chairman, Jamal Tamim, during a public campaign rally held in Ilagala village, Uvinza District, in support of the CCM parliamentary candidate for Kigoma South constituency.

Speaking at the rally, Tamim said he welcomed the defectors on behalf of President Samia Suluhu Hassan. On September 14, 2025, during a campaign rally at Katosho grounds in Kigoma Ujiji Municipality, President Samia had personally received the ACT-Wazalendo Regional Campaign Coordinator, Saidi Bakema, who announced his defection along with a group of over 200 people ready to join CCM.

President Samia assured Bakema that her representatives would formally receive the group — a promise fulfilled through the Ilagala rally, where Tamim officially welcomed the new members.

Chairman Tamim stated that the decision by the former ACT-Wazalendo members to join CCM is a clear sign that the people of Kigoma recognize and appreciate the extensive development efforts being carried out by President Samia across the region. He emphasized that CCM will continue to serve all citizens equally and accelerate development initiatives.

Meanwhile, CCM parliamentary candidate for Kigoma South, Nuru Kashakari, assured residents that, if elected, he would fulfill all his campaign promises. He pledged to work closely with the community to boost the constituency’s economy, including supporting small entrepreneurs such as food vendors and motorcycle taxi operators (bodaboda) through loans and development programs.

The rally was attended by hundreds of residents who came to witness this historic political shift in Kigoma South constituency.
