Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Chama cha Mapinduzi presidential running, Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, has affirmed the incoming government’s efforts to strengthen the blue economy initiatives championed by the Zanzibar President, Dr. Hussein Ally Mwinyi.
Speaking during his election campaign rally in the Isles, Dr. Nchimbi said the government plans to improve the port of Wete, increase value addition in the fisheries sector, and enhance seaweed farming in a bid to promote the islands’ economic growth.
Outlining plans for the fisheries sector, Dr. Nchimbi said the government aims to double annual fish production from 80,000 to 160,000 tonnes over the next five years. This increase, he noted, will be supported by the provision of modern fishing equipment to fishermen to enhance efficiency and productivity in this vital economic sector.
Additionally, he emphasized that CCM is committed to strengthening irrigated agriculture through the provision of quality seeds, fertilizers, loans, and access to reliable markets for various crops. He mentioned that key focus crops include cloves, fruits, and vegetables, which are essential for both the economy and the nutrition of the people.
