Ccm Pledges Fair Compensation for Port Project Residents

Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR Presidential Candidate through Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Dr Hussein Mwinyi has pledged that if elected, his government will compensate all residents who vacated their land to make way for the construction of Shumba Port, which is the new fishing port and fishing training centre in Pemba.

Dr Mwinyi assured that the payments will be made fairly and without discrimination. Speaking to residents of Shumba Mjini in Micheweni District, North Pemba Region, Dr Mwinyi said that the evaluation of the affected areas had already been completed and reports submitted to the Ministry of State, President’s Office (Finance and Planning) for payment procedures.

“The government will ensure that everyone entitled to compensation receives their payment fairly and on time. The valuation has already been completed and the next step is to make the payments,” Dr Mwinyi said.

He further assured residents that he would personally oversee the compensation process to guarantee transparency and fairness for all eligible citizens.

Reflecting on his 2020 election promises, Dr Mwinyi said most of them had already been fulfilled, including the construction of schools, roads and the ongoing development of Shumba Port, which will be expanded in the next phase to handle more cargo and fishing activities.

“Do not worry, our next development phase will be even greater than what we achieved before,” he told the campaign rally.

Dr Mwinyi also promised to continue empowering citizens through interest-free loans to help them grow their businesses, while calling on Zanzibaris to preserve peace, unity and harmony as a foundation for development.

“We are blessed with peace, let us maintain it. If we all commit ourselves to protecting it, we will continue to prosper,” he said.

Some residents of Shumba Mjini who were interviewed expressed strong support for Dr Mwinyi, describing him as a visionary leader who has brought remarkable progress to both Unguja and Pemba.

One of the residents, Mr Hussein Rashid Hussein said Shumba Mjini had benefited from over 10 completed development projects, including the port, under Dr Mwinyi’s leadership.

“We have no alternative but to support him. He is a blessing from God and we will ensure he returns to State House,” he said.

He urged other voters to reject divisive politicians seeking to disrupt peace during the election season. Mr Ali Abdalla Ali also commended Dr Mwinyi for his strong leadership, saying his achievements are visible across Zanzibar.

“If you truly know Zanzibar, you know Dr Mwinyi. His leadership has touched everyone,” he said.

He added that older citizens now enjoy respect and financial empowerment under Dr Mwinyi’s administration and urged voters to re-elect him on October 29.

“Some politicians are promising to build the same schools, roads and port that Dr Mwinyi has already completed. They should instead tell us the new things they will do,” he added.

Another resident, Bakia Salum said Shumba residents once faced severe water shortages, forcing women to cross by boats to fetch water, but under Dr Mwinyi’s leadership, the problem had been solved.

“He has literally taken the water buckets off women’s heads. Today, we have a constant water supply,” she said.

“The late Maalim Seif once said Zanzibar could become like Singapore if given the chance, Dr Mwinyi is making that dream come true,” she said. Ms Bakia urged voters to turn out in large numbers on October 29 and vote overwhelmingly for Dr Mwinyi.
