Africa-Press – Tanzania. CONTRACTORS in the country have formed an association dubbed ‘Tanzania United Contractors and Allied Services Association’ (TUCASA) in efforts to enhance efficiency.
The association was launched in Dar es Salaam on Friday in an event that was sponsored by various companies, including Plascon Tanzania, Mwanga Hakika Bank and Emirates, among others.
TUCASA is a merger of Association of Citizens Contractors Tanzania (ACCT), Non-Association Constructors (NACO’s), Tanzania Women Constructors Association (TWCA) and Tanzania Civil Engineering Contractors Association (TACECA).
TUCASA interim Chairman, Mr Samuel Marwa, said the association will work with the government to make sure that the laws and policies that affect contractors’ operations are reviewed.
“This association will help to push for review of laws and policies for the benefit of both government and private sector, it will help to improve working environment for constructors,” Marwa said.
He said that TUCASA will manage all the activities done by the constructors including projects which will be awarded to contractors either by the government or any other private institution in order to ensure that their rights are observed.
Mr Marwa further noted that it is important for all constructors to unite and have one voice which will help to make difference in construction industry.
“The association which has been formed today will surely strengthen all constructors and help to solve different problems such as payment either by the government or private sector,” he explained. He added that the association will speak for constructors especially on different challenges facing them.
On other hand, TUCASA board member Ms Vivian Ibrahim who is also the treasurer from Tanzania Women Constructors Association (TWCA) said the 30 per cent mentioned by the Head of State has not be accomplished by women constructors but through TUCASA they believe the per cent will be reached .
“We all know that her excellence president said women should be involved in development activities but with TWCA we have not reached the 30 per cent but we believe through this association the target can be attained,” Ms Ibrahim said.
She added that, for TUCASA to fulfill its duties there is a need for the government under the ministry of Works and Transport, to review the laws and policies to allow conducive environment for constructors operations.
