Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi said Tanzania’s business environment has significantly improved following government measures to remove legal and tax-related barriers that previously constrained business operations.
Speaking on March 27, 2026, in Dar es Salaam during a review meeting of the draft Second Business Environment and Investment Improvement Plan (MKUMBI II), Dr Mwinyi said the progress achieved is a result of the leadership and vision of Samia Suluhu Hassan, as well as close collaboration between the government and development stakeholders.
He noted that during the implementation of the first phase of MKUMBI, the government successfully removed or reduced more than 628 fees, levies, and taxes that had hindered growth across key sectors, including industry, mining, agriculture, livestock, fisheries, and forestry.
Additionally, President Mwinyi highlighted that over 94 laws have been reviewed to eliminate overlapping mandates among government institutions, a move that has reduced bureaucracy and improved efficiency for businesses.
He also reminded participants of the commitment made by President Samia during the opening of the 13th Parliament on November 14, 2025, where she pledged that the government would complete the implementation of MKUMBI II and incorporate recommendations from the Presidential Tax Commission to further enhance the investment climate.
Dr Mwinyi emphasized that MKUMBI II is a continuation of the government’s broader agenda to position the domestic private sector as the primary driver of economic growth. He added that the government is working to integrate electronic systems across institutions to streamline service delivery, enhance transparency, and ultimately build greater investor confidence both domestically and internationally.
