Gamondi: Nothing is impossible

Africa-Press – Tanzania. TAIFA Stars Head Coach, Miguel Gamondi, says his side face a very tough group at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco but insisted nothing is impossible.

Tanzania is placed in Group C, where they will face neighbours Uganda, as well as Tunisia and Nigeria.

The Taifa Stars campaign begins on December 23rd against Nigeria, before meeting Uganda on December 27th and completing their group stage on December 30th against Tunisia.

Gamondi, who recently finalised his 28-man squad from an initial list of 55 players, admitted the last phase of selection was the most demanding.

“It was not difficult to choose the 55, but selecting the final 28 was truly the hardest part. We will do more than our best to represent the country,” he said.

The Argentine coach underscored that his vision go beyond results, underlining his aim to improve the image of Tanzanian football, a goal that requires the full commitment of every player.

“We want to do something important for the image of Tanzanian football and for the dedication shown by the players and the nation. This is a big, big competition but nothing is impossible. We need to dream and believe,” he stressed.

Coach Miguel Gamondi named a final 28-man squad blending overseas-based talent with domestic stars from Simba SC, Young Africans SC and Azam FC.

This will be Tanzania’s fourth AFCON appearance, with the team determined to progress beyond the group stage for the first time.

The squad includes experienced internationals such as captain Mbwana Samatta, back in form with French side Le Havre, and forward Simon Msuva, currently playing in Iraq.

Their leadership and attacking quality will be crucial in a highly competitive group.
