Africa-Press – Tanzania. ZANZIBAR President, Dr Hussein Mwinyi has appointed seven individuals to serve as members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, in accordance with powers bestowed upon him under the 1984 edition of the Zanzibar Constitution.
According to the Constitution, the President of Zanzibar is allowed to nominate up to 10 individuals whom he considers suitable to join the House, following the general election. The latest appointments come after the October 29, 2025 general election, in which the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) was declared the winner and formed the new Government of National Unity (GNU).
Those appointed by the President and subsequently sworn in as House members are Mr Shariff Ali Shariff, Mr Masoud Ali Mohammed, Dr Saada Mkuya Salum, Mr Nadir Abdullatif Yussuf Alwardy, Mr Idrisa Kitwana Mustafa, Mr Tawfik Salim Turky and Dr Juma Malik Akil.
According to a statement released by the Chief Secretary and Secretary to the Revolutionary Council, Engineer Zena Ahmed Said, the appointments took effect on November 6, 2025.
However, Mr Said Ali Juma, who was also appointed by President Mwinyi, was not present during the swearing-in ceremony.
Before the October 2025 General Election, most of the appointed individuals served in Dr Mwinyi’s government: Mr Shariff Ali Shariff (Minister for Investments), Mr Masoud Ali Mohammed (Minister for Local Government), and Dr Saada Mkuya Salum (Minister for Finance and Planning).
Mr Nadir Abdullatif Yussuf Alwardy (deputy Minister for Infrastructure), Mr Idrisa Kitwana Mustafa (Regional Commissioner for Urban-West), Mr Tawfik Salim Turky, and Dr Juma Malik Akil (Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Planning).
Meanwhile, members of the Zanzibar House of Representatives elected Ms Mwanaasha Khamis Juma, from CCM, as Deputy Speaker of the House.
Ms Juma who represents the Dimani constituency in Unguja, served as one of the House of Representatives’ chairpersons during the previous fiveyear term.
