Africa-Press – Tanzania. TANZANIA men’s national cricket team has arrived safely in Accra, Ghana, ahead of the start of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Africa Qualifier B, which gets underway today.
The team opens its campaign against Malawi at Achimota Oval A, marking the beginning of its journey toward qualification for the 2028 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Chairman, Dr Balakrishna Sreekumar, confirmed the team’s arrival in Accra over the weekend and readiness for the tournament, expressing confidence in the squad.
“As they step onto this stage, we stand firmly behind them, united in support, belief and pride. They carry our flag, our passion and the hopes of a nation,” he said.
He added that the campaign represents the first step toward the 2028 global showpiece and called for national support as the team seeks to make history.
After today’s opener against Malawi, Tanzania will face Eswatini tomorrow at Achimota Oval B, before taking on Seychelles on March 27 and St Helena on March 28.
The team will conclude its group stage fixtures against hosts Ghana on March 29 at Achimota Oval A.
Captain Kassim Chete will lead the side, which blends experienced players with emerging talent as Tanzania aims to progress to the next stage.
Key players in the squad include Ajith Augustin, Ally Hafidhi, Ally Kimote and Arun Yadav, alongside Dhrumit Mehta, Ivan Selemani, Khalidy Juma, Under-19 captain Laksh Barkania, Mohammed Mbaki, Mukesh Maker, Mohamed Kitunda, Raymond Emanuel and Yalinde Nkanya.
The technical bench is headed by South African coach Mugammad Salieg, assisted by Riziki Mohamedi, with Ashish Dilip Maniar serving as team manager.
In a further boost, Tanzanian international umpire Adil Kassam has been selected to officiate at the tournament, underlining the country’s rising profile within the sport.
