Africa-Press – Tanzania. THE Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, has launched a pilot program to implement mobile ICT laboratories as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen digital skills among primary and secondary school students.

Announcing the initiative today in Dodoma while presenting the ministry’s budget for the 2025/26 financial year, Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, said the project is being implemented in partnership with Huawei in five regions: Dar es Salaam, Pwani, Morogoro, Dodoma, and Singida.

In addition to the mobile ICT labs, Prof. Mkenda said the government has also developed a pilot program for smart classroom technologies.

This includes learning management systems, virtual and simulation labs, immersive teaching tools, and the use of smartphones and tablets. The goal is to adapt these technologies to the Tanzanian context for effective use in teaching and learning in both primary and secondary schools.

In another initiative, the government continues to identify and nurture talent in Swahili literary writing through the third edition of the Mwalimu Nyerere National Creative Writing Award. The competition aims to promote a culture of reading, preserve national history and values, and cultivate positive social perspectives through creative literature.
